I start with white fabric such as cotton or linen then throw down a  riot of color using dye, textile paints, pigment pencils and my inkjet printer.  Then, I hang my favorite pieces on my idea wall for a few weeks until the fabric tells me what it wants to become.  I’ve turned these machine washable art fabrics into everything from pet beds and throw pillows to bags, children’s toys and journal covers.  My studio is a large room with tons of natural lighting and flexible furnishings so that it can quickly transition from “clean” (sewing, photography) to “dirty” (painting) activities.
