Bonnie Mitisek

Eugene Louis Boudin, a mentor to Impressionist Claude Monet, was said to be one of the first French landscape painters to work outdoors, en plein air.  According to biographer Marthe de Fels, Boudin, he believed that it was essential to retain one’s first impression. “Everything that is painted directly and on the spot always has a force, a power, and a vivacity of touch that cannot be re-created in the studio.”

I agree.

My delight in both plants and painting stems from my childhood. Nature walks, family gardening, library visits and regular trips to the Cleveland Museum of Art led me not only to draw, paint and illustrate, but also to grow plants and design gardens professionally.

Both major interests have coalesced into my current passion, plein air painting. Mitisek is a member of the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and the New Mexico Pastel Society, as well as CSA/NMAM
